Why Shopify ?

Why Shopify? A question asked to me many times when I started development on Shopify or by my colleagues at Marmeto or many a times at the Q&A session about my life over a cup a coffee or beer.

There is an interesting story to it and many reasons to be here.

So after I had completed my last contract on Ship. I was on a break and had nothing to do. Was planning to travel at that time & also had to decide a new journey for my life. In that very moment, my brother asked me "Hey do you wanna travel to Vietnam, I am going there to meet some folks from the Shopify community."I said yes.

Booked my ticket and flew to this amazing city Saigon.Planning to meet new people and indeed was greeted by developers from the Shopify community with warm hearts. They first Showed us around took us to some amazing food places over which they Shared their story about their journey in Shopify. How they started their journey and what exciting stuff they are working on. Also Their experiences on how they have been traveling and working in Shopify. This intrigued me.

And on a boat ride in a beautiful place Ha Long Bay in Vietnam i said to myself Hey, that's what I was looking for — a place where I could work fulfilling my dream of both working and traveling. Without letting my first love "travel" to end,bcoz I was not ready to let it go.

 

Coming back to India My journey to Shopify began.

I knew nothing about coding, or having a conversation with merchants/clients or make sales. The only thing I had was a will to learn and start over.

The journey started with me learning HTML and CSS for Development and then Shopify. In these moments the Shopify help docs and Shopify partner academy program was a of great help to me. and at moments when I used to get stuck with problems or need guidance to choose topics to pace up my journey,I discovered awesome folks on the Facebook groups and community who helped in the very quest.

Once I had gained a bit of knowledge about Shopify , the next challenge was to find a place where I could get a hands-on experience to learn about the real world, working with merchants and real Shopify stores. And once again found people who were willing to give a chance to start And they were just arm's length away.

There were many Shopify partners and developer from the Shopify community who gave me a chance to work. Even though I didn't have much experience, they gave me the responsibility to handle clients who were just starting up their businesses to clients who are the most prominent media house. Even though I feared was to mess things up, the people around me guided me, motivated me and pushed to my edge.

Took the fear out of me even I did mistakes. The word's that always reckons in my head is "Everyone has to start someday so it's your time now, All people make mistakes, and we are here to learn and improve ourselves. So be truthful and never quit".

So, coming back to the question where do you get these kinds of people who keep you pushing to achieve your goals and always keeps you motivated. Accepting people who are a joker in the pack, they know what you are worth. There will always be someone who will be there to help you out with your questions or show you the path when there seems no hope. These small things strengthen you will to help and serve this community. The community has given many things to me, so it's my time to give back.

The best part is the kind of challenge it throws. These challenges are exciting and keep you awake all night to solve them.

The other things I love about Shopify is the simplicity of the Platform as compared to others. Everything is possible here in Shopify as it is a product-centric to the customer, simple and easy to understand. Be it the help center.

And obviously, the meetups where you make many friends in different parts of the world and friend to welcome you everywhere.

Shopify breeds entrepreneurs. Keeps creative people alive and afloat.
